This amaro is named after the grandmother of the owner, Patrick, of Faccia Brutto who is called Lena Gorini. A blend of 13 botanicals, including gentian, rhubarb root, fennel, and sweet and bitter oranges, steeps for 3 weeks in a neutral, non-GMO grain liquor. The blend is adjusted to 40% ALC and aged in used whiskey barrels for a minimum of 3 months.
They are filtered and sweetened with organic cane sugar and organic caramel coloring. Then they add more fresh orange peel and let it sit for several additional days. It is filtered again and bottled.
It is Patrick's tribute to the southern Italian amaro tradition, known for its notable citrus and caramel notes. It presents a harmonious blend of soft honey, warm spices and bitter herbs. With a tantalizing aroma of fresh citrus and sweet orange peel, complemented by the subtle sweetness of organic New York State honey, it offers a balanced flavor profile.
Faccia Brutto, founded by Patrick Miller, a former chef with 14 years of restaurant experience, is known for its delicious, natural Italian liqueurs. Miller makes these spirits in Brooklyn following traditional methods and using sustainable botanical sources. Despite the grammatically incorrect name, Miller embraces the playful aspect of it.
